First Visit Experience

New dental patients in Harrisonburg choose Smallwood Dental Solutions because they have heard our approach to care is unlike any other! On your first visit, you can expect a thorough periodontal assessment, oral cancer exam, and essential x-rays. If time permits, we’ll also do a cleaning. If your teeth and gums need scaling and root planing, we’ll schedule it. This appointment takes about 90 minutes. Premedication requirements will be discussed if needed.

X-rays are crucial for diagnosis. If you’ve had recent x-rays (full mouth within 3 years, bitewings within 1 year), request them from your previous dentist and send them to us before your visit. If not, we’ll take new ones. If your previous dentist’s information reaches us with a Release Form, we’ll digitally transfer your current x-rays.

Our practice is for all ages and focuses on family and cosmetic dentistry. We offer a full range of cosmetic services—just ask about addressing specific concerns. Please note that we have a 48-hour cancellation policy; contact us if you cannot keep your appointment and need to reschedule.

Our office gladly files claims for you with all PPO insurance providers. In the case of out-of-network claims, we will accept the assigned payment from the provider when you pay your estimated portion of the charges at the time of service. We accept cash, checks, Visa Mastercard, and Discover.
